Diving deeper with a sea scooter

A sea scooter is an underwater propulsion device — you hold on and it pulls you through the water. It is not a moped or a road scooter. If you are looking to get around the island on wheels, our bike rentals are what you want instead.

What it actually changes

Distance and depth, mostly. Reefs that are a tiring swim from the beach become a short glide, and you can drop down for a closer look and come back up without burning the energy that normally ends a snorkel session early. People who tire quickly in the water get far more out of a day with one.

Where to use one

Smith Cove and the reef off Cemetery Beach are the natural spots — both have something to swim out to, and the scooter makes the swim out irrelevant. Along Seven Mile Beach it is simply a fast, easy way to cover water on a calm day.

Filming while you go

The scooters are GoPro-ready, with a mount on the body. Because you are being pulled rather than kicking, the footage comes out far steadier than anything you would get swimming with a camera in one hand.

Runtime

Expect around 45 minutes of exploration on a charge, which lines up well with how long most people want to stay in the water in one go.

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver sea scooters?

Yes, and it is free. We deliver and collect anywhere from West Bay to South Sound, which covers Seven Mile Beach, George Town and everything in between. Tell us your hotel, condo, villa or the stretch of beach you will be on, and the gear is waiting for you.

Is this a moped or a road scooter?

No. A sea scooter is an underwater device that pulls you along while you snorkel or dive. We do not rent mopeds or road scooters. For getting around the island, see our bike rentals.

How long does the battery last?

Around 45 minutes of exploration per charge.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

You should be comfortable in the water, but the scooter does the work that normally tires people out. Many people pair one with a snorkel vest for extra buoyancy.

Can I mount a camera?

Yes. The scooters take a GoPro on the built-in mount.

How do I book?

Book online any time, or call or WhatsApp us on +1 (345) 525 4455 if you would rather talk it through. If your dates are during a cruise-ship day or a holiday week, book earlier — those are the days we run out.
