Where to paddle in Grand Cayman

A kayak opens up the parts of the island you cannot reach on foot or by car — the shallow mangrove channels, the quiet coves, and the long calm stretch off Seven Mile Beach on a still morning.

Seven Mile Beach, early

Before the wind picks up, the water off Seven Mile Beach goes glassy and you can paddle parallel to the shore for as long as you like with the beach never more than a few strokes away. This is the easy option and the one to start with if anyone in the group has not kayaked before.

The North Sound mangroves

The mangrove channels on the North Sound are sheltered from wind and swell, which makes them the calmest water on the island. They are also a nursery for juvenile fish and rays, so the wildlife is close and unbothered. Narrow, shaded and quiet — the complete opposite of the open coast.

Rum Point and Starfish Point

Over on the north side, the water is shallow and warm for a long way out. Starfish Point is exactly what it sounds like. It is a longer trip from the west side, but if you are staying that end of the island it is the obvious paddle.

Bioluminescence after dark

The North Sound holds one of the few bioluminescent bays in the Caribbean, and the plankton light up when the water is disturbed. Conditions depend on the moon and the weather, so ask us what the water has been doing before you plan a night around it.

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver kayaks to the beach?

Yes, and it is free. We deliver and collect anywhere from West Bay to South Sound, which covers Seven Mile Beach, George Town and everything in between. Tell us your hotel, condo, villa or the stretch of beach you will be on, and the gear is waiting for you.

Single or tandem — which should I take?

Tandems suit couples, a parent with a child, or anyone who would rather share the effort. Singles give you full control and are easier to turn in the mangrove channels. Plenty of groups take one of each.

Do I need to have kayaked before?

No. Our kayaks are the wide, stable, sit-on-top kind, and the sheltered water off Seven Mile Beach and inside the mangroves is about as forgiving as it gets for a first time.

Are paddles included?

Yes. Paddles come with every kayak.

Can I rent a kayak for several days?

Yes, and the daily rate drops the longer you keep it. A single day is charged at the standard rate, while three, five and seven-day rentals each move you into a cheaper per-day bracket. The full breakdown is in the price table above.

How do I book?

Book online any time, or call or WhatsApp us on +1 (345) 525 4455 if you would rather talk it through. If your dates are during a cruise-ship day or a holiday week, book earlier — those are the days we run out.
